When multiplying, no matter if you do it in the windows calculator or in some program language, the asterisk (*) is used as a default multiplication symbol. The reason for this is that x would too easily be confused with the letter and . is used for delimiting decimals.

If you have trouble finding the symbol, it is located under the combination of shift+F8 on most keyboards (german, arabian etc are different), or on your numpad/keypad under as the button just above the num 7 (home) key

It is there. It is the asterisk, which is next to the minus and division sign. It is also above the 8 on the keyboard. A person can also use a letter "x". So you have more than one choice. Also, parentheses are used as well, for example: 3(4)=12. You are just looking too hard.

You have asked a question why multiplication sign on a computer keyboard is not 'x'

All Six usual computing signs are essential on a keyboard!

However, if 'x' is used as multiplication sign, primarily it will confuse users. Each time a user will have to use an alphabet as multiplication sign, which is not desirable!

A star is not too differ rent from 'x' sign. A horizontal cross line added on (x ) is (*).

You may confidently use (*) as multiplication sign!

You may also grasp a practical problem if you had to use zero (0) and alphabet (o) by a single symbol.

use a period because if it was raised the dot in the middle means the same thing as multiply, and si actually, once in the 7th grade and higher used much more beacause the multiply sifnal; looks like an x(which u could also use)

use * (asterik) symbol to multiply...

if u dont want to use multiply symbol u can

use + symbol itself...

For ex: 2 * 5=10

u can write it as 2+2+2+2+2 =10

adding 2 five times. But it will be tedious

job....

You go to (Insert)+(Symbol) in MS-Word; There you will find numerous symbols including the multiplication symbol. Click on the multiplication symbol. This will appear in MS-Word at the cursor.

Oh my, shift 8 or * key, and to divide use the key under the ? sign.

Sometimes we take little things like that for granted. I have been programming computer since 1975.

When you want to express the multiply, either use small x or use the *. That's the way to type it.

Opposite of positive is negative, think of it this way. Opposite plus opposite equals more opposite. Opposite times an opposite (opposite of an opposite) is a normal.

an asterisk (*) is used because a multiplication symbol is an "x" and that would just get confusing

Let x and y be complex numbers. Prove (-x)(-y) = xy. Proof: The proof follows by applying the associative, commutative and additive inverse properties of complex numbers. (-x)(-y) + (-xy) = (-x)(-y) + (-x)(y) = (-x) * [(-y) + (y)] = (-x) * 0 = 0. So (-x)(-y) + (-xy) = 0. Add xy to each side: (-x)(-y) + (-xy) + xy = 0 + xy (-x)(-y) + [(-xy) + xy] = xy (-x)(-y) + 0 = xy (-x)(-y) = xy.
