L = 14' - 3 x 4'6"

4'6" is 4.5'

L = 14 - 3 x 4.5

L = 14 - 13.5

L = .5' = 6"

ps. the saw takes out about 1/8" for each cut so the remaining length would actually be about 5 5/8 inches.

Actually, a little less than six inches: six inches minus three times the width of the saw blade used to cut the fourteen foot board.

Just in case: 4'6" is equal to 4ft 6in (ft='=feet, in="=inches). I'll use letters here because quotation marks and apostrophes can get confusing.

Multiply 4ft 6in by 3. This gives you 12ft 18in. However, 12in = 1ft, so 18 in = 1.5 ft. You add that to your 12 ft, and get 13.5ft.

Finally, you subtract 13.5 ft from 14 ft, and get 0.5 ft, or 6 inches.

Hope that helps!

um...half a foot.

six inches

4'6" x 3 = 12 feet 18 inches which equals 13 feet and 6 inches. 14' - 13'6" = 6"

right?
