everything says e is 2.7182818284........etc......

but to solve math problems like in algebra 2,
what form of e are you supposed to use?

Like 2.7? or 2.71? or 2.72? or 2.718? etc....?

what form do I use.

And what is the number e in a fraction?

"e" is an irrational number. There is no fraction that can ever represents it. Either leave your answers in terms of "e", or round it off to get a crude approximation. As for where you want to round it off, that all depends on how accurate you want your answer to be, of course.

These all values of e are approximate values.While using e in math problems it depends upon the accurecy of the result needed.

In mathematics e is defined as a irrational nonalgebraic number.It is defined as an infinite series

e=1+1/1!+1/2!+1/3!........+1/k!+...........infinity terms.

so the value will depend upon how many terms of the series added.

In general

e^x also written as exp(x)=1+x+x^2/2!+x^3/3!+..........x^k/k!+..........ad infitum

This Function was first introduced by swiss Mathematicien Bernhard Euler.

Use sufficient precision to do the job you need. If you're caculating interest rates, then stop at the point where it no longer makes a difference to the answer.

e cannot be expressed as a fraction - it's irrational, like pi - and that literally means it's not expressable as a fraction.

As to the question of what form you should use for class, I would say the person to ask is your teacher: what form does he/she want you to use?

If you are using a calculator, then your teacher's answer is probably going to be "don't use ANY of those decimal approximations." (like 2.7 or 2.718) Just use the calculator button for e.

so, for example, if you want to compute 2500e^.04, use the exponential key on your calculator:

2500 x exp .04

enter this all as one sequence of key-strokes, and then hit enter. You'll get

2602.02693548

If this represents money, for example, then you can round off the final answer to two decimals.

$2602.03

e can't be written as a single fraction using only integers, but it can be written as the sum of many fractions, i.e.:

e = 1/(0!) + 1/(1!) + 1/(2!) + 1/(3!) + 1/(4!) + 1/(5!) + 1/(6!) + ...

e = 1/1 + 1/1 + 1/2 + 1/6 + 1/24 + 1/120 + 1/720 + ...

It can also be written as the limit of:

(1 + (1/n))^n

as n approaches infinity.

an irrational number cannot be expressed in the form a/b or fractional form. why are you behind it? still if we correct e to two decimal places, we get 2.72 which can be written as 272/100 in fractional form. but its not a method actually..........

e can't be expressed as a fraction because it's irrational.

2.718 is usually a good estimation for Algebra 2, though.

Use the other data use in computations to detrmine the appropriate number of drcimal places.

e cannot be expressed exactly by any fraction but you could use 68/25
