They're the same. One "billion" is the word used to describe a thousand million. Just as one "million" is the word used to describe a thousand thousand. They're are two ways of describing the same number - both right.

Edit: Just to be clearer - it would have been called athousand million, before someone said let's call it a "billion". The same applies to a thousand billion, which someone decided to call a "trillion". The naming convention (trillion, quadrillion etc.) come from latin.

It is a billion.

1 million times ten = ten million

1 million times a hundred = 100 million

1 million times a thousand = 1000 million, or a billion

Officially, the original term used to describe one thousand million (or one million thousands) was "one milliard". Modern (especially American) convention, however uses the term "one billion" to describe this number.

Again, historically, the term "One Billion" was really one million million, i.e. 1 followed by 12 zeros, thus 1,000,000,000,000.

Doctrine is developed by human, based on their interpretation off what is written. This can lead to fear, bias, bigotry, and completely non-biblical beliefs and standards. As an ex-boy scout who had a scout master who was a pedophile, I believe the boy scouts have gone too far in washing out gay men from the ranks. I think it was a witch hunt in their effort to eliminate the potential for pedophiles. Gay men shouldn't have been targeted.

It is one billion, but it is also one thousand millions. It's just two different ways of saying the same thing.

Just like you could say thrity-four hundred or three thousand four hundred.

You can have a thousand millions,

but that's no different than saying "one thousand thousands" or "twenty hundreds."

We have names for those numbers already, one-million, two-thousand, and in your case, one billion.

If you just start changing our number system, you will make it a lot harder for me us to count. I have enough trouble already.

I think it is the same as one thousand million but why call it that instead of a billion? It's much easier to say a billion. Its like saying thirteen hundred to mean 130. I say that because its easier than saying one hundred thirty.

You are correct.

Alhtough I have never heard someone call it one thousand million, technically it could be called that...

1,000,000,000 is One Billion.

Maybe you should be the boss? =)

It *should* be called a thousand million based on the pattern:

hundred

thousdand

hundred thousand

million

hundred million

but I never hear anyone use that term

Your terminology may be off, but there is technically no limit to numbers.
