You actually would place a decimal after the whole number that is the divisor, and keep going with the division problem.

Let's assume that you are dividing 300 by 7, and you want an answer rounded to 2 decimal places. Place a decimal point after 300, so that it looks like "300.00" and just keep doing the division. 7 goes into 30 four times and you have 2 left over, so then you carry down a zero and say 7 goes into 20 two times and then you have 6 left over, so you carry down another zero. Then you say 7 goes into 60 eight times with 4 left over, and you carry another zero down. 7 goes into 40 five times with 5 left over. Do it just one more time so that you know whether to round up or down. 7 goes into 50 seven times, so you know that you're going to round up. All of this gave us the answer "42.46" because we carry the decimal straight up when doing long division.

in a/b=c, a is the dividend, b is the divisor, and c is the quotient

remainder/divisor = decimal
