We're going over Scientific Notation right now in math, but I don't understand how you could possibly put a single number into scientific notation, so please help me out here.
The question I'm stumped on, asks me to put 9 into scientific notation.
First person to answer correctly will get best answer.

9x10^0
9 x 10^3....then it's 9,000
if it's
9.15 x 10^3...then it's 9,150
Basically move the decimal place of the number to the right of what the exponent above the 10 is...
[i find the title offensive...not every math person is a nerd...]

The form is :
(a number between 0 ~ 10) * 10^n
for example if the number is 36500, the scientific notation is:
3.65 * 10^4
so 9 is already in its scientific notation
or
9* 10^0 wich equals 9

9 x 10^0
any number none 0 number to the 0 power is 1
90 = 9 x10^1
8,143 = 8.143 x 10^3
the reason for scientific notation is the values used are so large and so small they become unwieldy without it
the link below explains better than I can. I suggest you bookmark it as purplemath explains many math concepts very well.

Si Notation is by definition:
A whole integer number times a Power of ten
10^0 = 1
10^1 = 10
9 = 9 * 1 = 9 * 10^0
does that make any sense?
10^-2 = 1/ (10^-2): the minus indicates 1 divided by the positive power
there is more to learn. study powers and root and multiplication and division by adding and subracting exponents.
Hope that helps

9 in scientific notation is:
9x10^0
it could also be:
0.009x10^3 <=== see if you move the decimal place 3 times to the right you'll get 9
0.0009x10^4
0.00009x10^5
it could also be:
9000x10^-3
90000x10^-4
now i'm just playing with your head..

the answer is 9 times 10 to the exponent of 0
like 9 X 10^0
the ^ is exponent
this is because anything to the exponent or power of 0 is equal to 1
.... :) now best answer me ;)
