What does it mean when something wants you to "increase a number by a factor of 2"
say:
100
or
5
is it just multiplied by 2, doubled?
so 200 and 10?

Yes, "increase by a factor of x" means to just multiply by x.
For example, if we had 20 people in the room and the number increased by a factor of 5, it means we have 5 times as many people (i.e. 100 people).
In your examples:
100 x 2 = 200
5 x 2 = 10
Answer:
Yes, exactly as you thought
