for scientific notation the number has to be between 0 and 10 (or in this case -10 and 0), so you move the decimal place to the left 4 times, getting -8.0640. since you moved the decimal place 4 times, the 10 (in the notation) has be to raise to the 4th power. your answer is -8.064 x 10^4

Writing negatives in scientific notation is almost the same as writing positives in scientific notation. But if you have a negative, move the decimal so that the number is between 0 and -10.
-80,640.
Move the decimal 4 places to -8.0640
Your answer is -8.0640 x 10^4

-8.064 x 10^4
Remember, your first number must have an absolute value greater than or equal to 1, and less than 10. Make the exponent correspond to the desired answer once this is done.
