Looking a mathematical equation to express the above thought: the trick is that there can be no limiting parameters, and the baseline craziness is 0. Good Luck (my girlfriend and I couldn't figure it out.)

Where c = craziness and n = number of cats:

c = (2 ^ n)/4

This gives the series :

n = 0, c= 1/4

n = 1, c = 1/2

n = 2, c = 1

n = 3, c = 2

n = 4, c = 4

And so on.

How about

C = C0*{exp[k(N-2)] - 1} for N >=2

For N = 2, C = 0

C = level of craziness

k = cat craziness factor

I can't help you with the math, but I'd have to agree with your basic premise. I've worked in the veterinary field for 12 years and my wife is a veterinarian. With a few exceptions, cat people are nuts.

craziness=k*exp(n-2)-k (n greater then or equal to 2) where k is a constant that you would need to determine based on how fast the craziness increases with each additional cat.

I gave you a star, don't grovel.

Debatably true but unquestionably humorous. And this admission from a friend of several exponentialy nutty (if only about felines!) people.
