2. Find 1/4 of 36

Thanks:)

Oh and p.s I was wondering if I was correct on this question...
it says "Write down two fractions equivalent to 2/5" I put 4/10 and 6/15

Thanks again :L

Oh and If you want me to answer any of your questions i'll try to answer them:)

1. 3/10 is the same as 6/20 (3*2/10*2) and 9/30 (3*3/10*3)

2. 1/4(36) is the same as (36*1)/4 or 36/4 = 9

P.S. your answer is correct:)

1)Think of fractions as division problems. 3/10 equals 3 divided by 10 which will equal 0.3 if you put this into a calculator.

If you multiply the numerator and the denominator by the same number, you are basically multiplying by 1 because any number divided by itself equals 1. You create equivalent fractions when doing this because any number times 1 equals itself.

3/10 times 2/2 = 6/20 3/10 times 3/3 equals 9/30 so on to infinity.

2) "Of" in math speak translates to "times" or "multiplied by" 1/4 times 36/1 = 36/4 = 36 divided by 4 which equals 9. Another way to think of this is to break 36 into 4 parts. You would have 4 groups of 9 in each set. You have one out of the four sets so you'd have 9.

Hope this helps. Keep studying math. It's a great subject and helps you think well.

3/10 = 6/20 = 12/40 = 30/100 = 60/200 ...

(1/4) x 36 = 36/4 = 9

yes, 2/5 = 4/10 = 5/15
