i really need help on graphing functions, the question is graph the function y=5x+4 with the domain x less than equal to 0
can someone help me giving steps to solve it? im really bad at math and im home schooled so i dont have a teacher to help me and my math book is just making me more confused

Graph by transformation. First graph the line y=x which goes through the origin, then y=x+4 is just that same graph shifted 4 units up. The 5 in front of the x makes the graph more steeper from right to left. Or simply plot points.

The phrase "the domain of x is less than or equal to 0" means that the values of the x-variable can only be zero or negative numbers. By definition, all negative number are less than zero. So, starting at zero and then subtracting 1 for the next number, substitutue each x-value into the equation and solve it for the y-value. The x-value and the corresponding y-value are called an "ordered pair" or on an x-y plane, the "coordinates" of a particular point or position on that plane. The list of x-y pairs is noted in what is known as a "T-chart." The resulting coordinates are then plotted on graph paper and a line is drawn to connect them. Since the equation is a first degree or linear equation, the line will be a straight line.

Please see below...

Equation: y = 5x + 4

...x-value... ...Substitution... ...y-value

.........0....... ......5(0) + 4....... ........4........

.......-1........ .....5(-1) + 4....... .......-1........

.......-2........ .....5(-2) + 4....... .......-6........

.......-3........ .....5(-3) + 4....... .....-11........

.......-4........ .....5(-4) + 4....... .....-16........

.......-5........ .....5(-5) + 4....... .....-21........

.......-6........ .....5(-6) + 4....... .....-26........

.......-7........ .....5(-7) + 4....... .....-31........

Home schooling is fine if your parent(s) know basic math and language arts. Otherwise they should put you in public school.

Plot the points (0,4) and (-1,-1) and (-2,-6). I hope you can see that they satisfy the equation y = 5x + 4. Then draw a straight line through these points. END the line at (0,4), but carry the other end of it beyond (-2,-6) to show that the line continues.
