i) If cost price is C, selling price is S and loss% = L, then

S = C(100 - L)/100

ii) Here selling price of 35 greeting cards, S = 35x,

where x is the selling price of one greeting card.

Cost price of 35 greeting cards = SP of 35 + Loss = 35x + 5x = 40x

From the above, we have, 35x = 40x(100 - L)/100

==> 100 - L = 35x * 100/40x = 87.5

Solving x = 12.5

Thus his loss percent = 12.5

Answer:

Suppose selling price of one card is x then 35 cards selling will be 35x and loss of 5 cards will be

5x, so 35 cards cost price will be 35x + 5x = 40x now on 40x cost price they losing 5x then how

much on 100 will be 5x*100/40x = 100/8 = 12.5%

we will solve this question via unitary method. I hope that you have learnt about the 'unitary method'.otherwise you can search about unitary method in google, or other search engines.

Now, we are come on your question...

Let each greeting card have its S.P. 1$. [now we denote the greeting card as gc]

==>35 gc have its SP 35$.

==>5 gc have its SP 5$.

hence the shopkeeper's SP is 35$ and his loss is 5$.

Now, CP=SP + LOSS

==> CP=35+5

==> CP=40

now, CP is 40 then, loss is 5

if CP is 100 then, loss is (?)

hence, the answer:-

[(100)(5)]/40

= 500/40

= 50/4

= 12.5

hence, shopkeeper loses 12.5%.

let cp be y

let sp of each greeting cards be x

therefore sp of 35 gretting cards be 35x

by question loss is 5x

then we have

loss=cp-sp

5x=y-35x

y= 40x

now

loss percent=(loss\cp)*1oo

(5x\40x)*1oo

12.5 percent

it will help u
