Biologists have noticed that the chirping rate of crickets of a certain species is related to temperature, and the relationship appears to be very nearly linear. A cricket produces 113 chirps per minute at 70°F and 173 chirps per minute at 80°F.

(a) Find a linear equation that models the temperature T as a function of the number of chirps per minute N.

(b) What is the slope of the graph?

(c) If the crickets are chirping at 100 chirps per minute, estimate the temperature.

it would be SOOO great if you can help.. math buffs ASSEMBLEEE ;) lovee you long time if you get this :)

(a) N = 7*T - 377

(b)slope = 7

(c) 100 = 7*T - 377

T = 477/7 = 68.14 F (ans)

help me get to levl 2 .....plzzz :)

a) just do linear regression on the given data points. with only two points it becomes trivial. don't you remember having to find the line that passes through 2 given points back in, what was it, algebra I?

b) no calculus needed here either -- from part a) you have the equation of a line from which you can tell the slope.

c) again no calculus needed for this part. just plug the value into the equation and evaluate.

you could desire to be from polland Survey section. right it extremely is the hint. Use L'hhospital rule. All to procure to do is take the spinoff of the suitable and divide by utilising the spinoff of the backside and plug interior the cut back. in case you nevertheless get 0/0, use L'wellbeing facility rule returned. EDIT: in basic terms asserting...

1) since the relationship of these two factors is nearly linear, and we've got two points on this line, it would be easy for us to equationalize it:

k = (173-113)/(80-70) = 6. soppose T = kN + b

173 = 6*80 + b

--> b = 173 - 480 = -307

T = 6N - 307

2) according to previous reasoning, we can see the slope is 6.

3) T = 6*N - 307

T = 6*100 - 307 = 293

Given in terms of (N, T):

(113, 70) and (173, 80)

a)

Slope = (80 - 70) / (173 - 113) = 10 / 60 = 1/6

T = mN + b

70 = (1/6)(113) + b

b = 307/6

T(N) = (1/6) * N + 307/6

(b)

The slope is 1/6.

(c) If N = 100, then:

T(100) = (1/6) * 100 + 307/6

= 67.83333333333333333333333°F

This is reasonable since 67.83°F < 70°F < 80°F corresponds to 100 chirps < 113 chirps < 173 chirps.

slope: (173-113) / (80-70) =

60 / 10 =

6

y=mx+b : m=6, pick any of the two points for x,y

113=(70)(6)+b

113=420+b

b= -307

y=6x-307 however it is not logical if the answer produces less than 0 chirps so....

0=6x-307

6x=307

x=51and1/6

now let x=T and y=N

N=6T-307 N>= 51and 1/6 degrees

LOL im only 15 thats wierd i had a dream about it once
