I know that when you multiply a number and a percentage like for example--100 times .02 = 2 because you are finding how much 2 percent of a 100 is but, what about what you are dividing it? what are you finding exaclty?

if you are given a percentage of something, in a question, then you divide by the percentage to find the total amount.

Example

If 80% of Tito's pay is $400, what is his total pay?

$400/80% =$500

or even simpler

If 2% of Tito's pay is $2, what is his total pay?

$2/2%=$100

Think of it this way when you say percent it means 1/100 mean every % sign you put you actually dividing by 100.

That's why you CAN mulityple by 100% since 100% = 100/100 = 1 and any number into 1 is the number itself

so when you divide by a % you are finding out the whole of which the % is a part.

For example 50% of what is 2 ?? 2/50% = 4.

25% of what is 8 ? Ans. 2/25% = 32

Hope you're getting this.

If we divide 100 by 50%,

we will get

100/50%

=100/(50/100)

=100/0.5

=200

So, you will find that we got 200% of 100

Meaning, it is the fourth proportional.

50%/100%=100%/200%

It was like that. Understood?

Let's take another example,

we have to divide 45 by 20%

Then, 20% / 100% = 100% / ?

20% / 100% = 100% / 500%

Therefore, 500% of 45 = 225

Understood?

Oh, but in the case of 0.02 × 100, are you finding 2% of 100 or are you finding 100% of 0.02?

lets say, devide 100 with 50 percents

50percents= 50/100

to devide 100 with 50/100,

100/50/100= 0.02

well, so the answer is 0.02 but i dont know what this value means
