For the second equation, use x=-1+y or x = y-1, then substitute that for x in the first equation, and solve.



5(y-1) - 2y = 10



You should be able to take it from there. You really should do your own, or you won't do well on the test.

Equation 1: 5x-2y=10

Equation 2: x-y=-1



Therefore, from equation 2, derive x=y-1. Subtitute this equation into equation 1.



5(y-1)-2y=10

5y-5-2y=10

3y=15

y=5



subtitute y=5 into the equation x=y-1, therefore x=5-1=4
