Hello everyone.

How do you extract the constant pi accurately (using numerical) method ?

My father used to tell me that you could get pi from 22/7 ?

Please don't tell me to draw a circle ... :D

Best regards,

First, 22/7 is a fair approximation, but 355/113 is much better. But pi is not equal to any fraction involving whole numbers (sorry).

There are many ways to approximate it more accurately. One is

pi=4-4/3+4/5-4/7+4/9-4/11.......

Take as many terms as you wish. Unfortunately, this gets close to pi very slowly. There are other, much faster methods.

draw verticle 1 foot lines on the floor of your house. Then construct a 6 inch needle. Randomly throw this needle at the floor 1000 times and count the number of times the needle hits a line. Now take 1000 / (# of hits) and you have a rough estimate of pi. (Warning: this method is extremely inefficient and time consuming, I suggest going to the website http://www.angelfire.com/wa/hurben/buff.html and trying it with a computer.

22/7 is ok for many calculations but not extremely accurate.

See the web link below for some series that converge to pi.

Pi (spoken as pai - i as I)

It is irrational number That means it can not be expressed in form of a/b.

Its approx value is 22/7

More accurate value is 355/113 (remember as 113355 put last 3 on top)

Value in decimal form is 3.1415926....

It is non terminating and non repeating decimal.

The only way is learn it. There are plenty web sites list it to many decimal places.

22/7 is an approximation so don't use it to work it out.

Please visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pi . It contains many equations how to get the numerical approximation of Pi, and there are helpful explanations. Hope that helps.

Well, first you need some pie crust. Then, you must choose the fillings of your likeing. It doesnt take much math to make pie. I like banana cream pie. It tastes good.
