For one of my maths assignments, I need to justify any arguement I make. One of the facts I stated was that the formula from a log-log graph was in linear nature. Why is this?

I need help justifying why log-log graphs produce linear models.

Thanks!

on linear graph

y on vertical

x on horizontal

y = mx + a is straight line

on semi-log graph, log scale vertical, linear scale horizotal

y on vertical

x on horizontal

log y = mx + a is a straight line

on log-log graph, log scale vertical, log scale horizontal

y on vertical

x on horizontal

log y = log x + a is a straight line

it will be a curve for other equations

whether or not you get a linear relationship when analyzing data depends on the data. it may be linear in log-log or it may not be. I am saying that log-log graphs do not produce linear models it is the data when analyzed in log-log that produces the linear relationship. if you have a set of data and the best fit is linear in log-log space then I would guess that maybe a correlation coefficient would demonstrate that the linear fit is best.

Plot t on the horizontal axis and Log A on the vertical and you will get a straight line with gradient - 0.02 and intercept Log 60
