1) You know that the for the volume of a sphere: V = 4/3*pi*r^3, so plug in the volume in the problem.

V = 4/3*pi*r^3

36*pi = 4/3*pi*r^3

Divide both sides by pi

36 = 4/3*r^3

multiply both sides by 3/4 (to get r^3 alone)

27=r^3

r=3

2) To answer this question properly, you need to know which shape it is. I can guess from the numbers that it's probably a cylinder - if it's not, this is wrong.

SA = 2(pi*r^2) + pi*2*r*h

16pi = 2pi*r^2 + pi *2*35*r

divide both sides by 2pi

8 = r^2 + 35r

0 = r^2 + 35r - 8

Solve the quadratic

r = 0.227 (you only want the positive value, since this is a length)

1. The volume of a sphere is 4/3 pi times the cube of the radius (r) , in this case 4/3 pi x r**3 = 36 pi

Now divide both sides of the equation by pi, you get 4/3 r cubes = 36 or r cubed = 36 x 3/4 = 27...there for r (radius) is equal the cubed root of 27 or r = 3

2. If the surface area of a circle is 16 pi then pi times r square = 16 pi or r squared = 16, therefore r = 4.
