The E is a shorthand for "times ten to the power of" the number following the E. For example 2.5E2 would be "2.5 times 10 to the power of 2" or 250. Usually the E doesn't display unless the number is too large or too small to fit in the calculator's display.

E stands for "exponent"... on a calculator it represents the power that the number 10 is raised to in scientific notation,

e.g., 3.51542988 times 10^-5, or .0000351542988.

The number is less than 1 if E has a negative integer, otherwise, the number represets a positive expression.

Hope this helps..

E means exponent (on 10):

2.5 E 4 means 2.5 x 10^4 which is 25,000

2.5 E -4 means 2.5 x 10^-4 which is 0.00025

your 3.515 E -5 is 0.00003515....

times 10^x

So you have 3.515... * 10^(-5)

Or 0.00003515......
