sum is adding. product is multiplying.
eg of sum : 2 + 2 = 4
5 + 5 = 10
eg of product : 2 X 2 = 4 (2 + 2 or 2 times of 2)
5 X 5 = 25 (meaning 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 or 5 times of 5)

when you sum up a bunch of numbers, you're adding them all together
when you're finding the product you're multiplying them
take 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
sum = 1+2+3+4+5+6+7 = 28
product = 1*2*3*4*5*6*7 = 5040

When you get different amounts, then to find their total, you add them. That is sum or addition. When you get a particular (same) amount repeated number of times, its total can be found by adding same number so many times which becomes tedious if the number is large. It also takes much time to perform so many additions. But this can be quicker by multiplying the amount by number of times it appeared. his is product.
