Like Jake Paton said, you can add 185 then divide by 20.
OR...
You do the opposite operation, in reverse order
That is divide by 5, add 32 dibide by 2, etc.
That would takes longer.
OR...
You can divide by 20 first, then add 9.5

This is no trick, it is simple algebra.
The number my friend finally gives me after I tell him/her to do all these calculations is just:
y = 5[2(2x-3)-31], where x is the number he/she picked.
So,
x = (y + 185)/20 and y is given to you by your friend who has just done a bunch of calculations for nothing.

... Answer = 5 * ( 2 * ( 2*x - 3) - 31 )
or 20x - 185 = Answer
or x = ( Answer + 185 ) / 20

pick a number: x
multiply by 2: 2x
subtract 3: 2x-3
multiply by 2: 4x-6
subtract 31: 4x -37
multiply by 5: 20x - 185
so add 185 and then divide by 20
