Question:
Entering math symbols: Your favorite browser plugin or other tool?
?

I've been using a Firefox plugin (it's called abcTajpu) to create keyboard shortcuts to help input mathematical symbols on Yahoo! Answers. But it's kind of a hack; it's primarily designed for foreign-language characters, so it has its drawbacks.

Have you come up with a good way for inputting Unicode math symbols on this forum? If so, let's hear 'em!

Alternately, do you have any trouble reading Unicode math symbols other people have input? If so, maybe we shouldn't be using them at all!

I have several html symbols memorized, like the greek letters which are all &name: where "name" is replaced by pi or Pi to make π and Π, respectively. Also inserting "radic" for name makes √ "int" makes ∫ and "infin" makes ∞. That gets me by day to day.

For other symbols, I go to http://barzilai.org/math_sym.htm

But with help of Scrander Berry and Rozeta, I have just added most of these symbols to my profile page (plus some symbols I swiped from wordperfect which remains ∞ better than word). This should make life easier -- just open up a second tab on the browser. ☺

I copy and paste from a word document, although I also know the ascii codes off by heart for "squared" and "cubed" as i use those 2 so often.

I collected them from what others had used,

The "insert symbol" thing suggested by the previous person doesn't work: here is what it does when i try -

"copyright" :Ó

"sqrt": Ö

"delta": d

"greater than or equal to" : ³ (hey - that gave cube)

"is an element of" : Î

"is not an element of": Ï

Sometimes I do have trouble reading some symbols

In case anyone wants them, here are some of the symbols I have collected so far

π r ² ± √ ¹ ² ³ ⁴ × ⁿ ֿ¹ ֿ² ֿ³ Ö¿⁴ ½ ¼ ¾ ⅓ ∫ √ θ Θ α , • ¢ ° £ → ∞ ÷ × ⅔ ∑ ∴ ≠ ≥ ≤ ₄ ₂ Δ ∩ ≡ Ø α ß Δ Ω ∂ Φ Δ Λ Γ γ δ ε τ ω μ σ Є ☺ ℝ

Sorry if any are repeated

Thanks to those below - I'm going to add them to my profile page too (when I get home from walking my dogs)

I have my MS Word file with many math symbols, Greek alphabet and some special letters used in certain languages, from where by copy/paste i write formulas or messages.

When I'm in a hurry or when I post from internet café, I use symbols from here:

http://answers.yahoo.com/my/profile;_ylt=AkdXUGR5khMnD5nlUEfERVE8.Bd.;_ylv=3?show=5UhcDtDAaa

usually copying the whole set.

Thank you, Vikram!
