It's making me go crazy. I can't figure it out.
xt= 2x+11 and xz= 5x+8,
find the value of x.

Does xt mean x times t? (same for xz?)
x t = 2x + 11
x t - 2x = 11
x(t-2) = 11
x=11/(t-2) ----(1)
x z = 5x + 8
x z - 5x = 8
x(z-5) = 8
x=8/(z-5) ---(2)
Each equation leads to a value of x. There are two solutions. Or, you might have forgotten something in your question.

xt = 2x+11
xt-2x = 11
x(t-2) = 11
x = 11/(t-2)
xz = 5x+8
xz-5x = 8
x(z-5) = 8
x = 8/(z-5)

xt= 2x+11
xz= 5x+8
xz+xt= 7x+ 19
7x= xz+xt-19
x=(xz+xt-19)/7
