Grouped data is when there is a large number of possible outcomes, we will usually need to group the data.

E.g The ages of 200 people entering a park on a Saturday afternoon. The ages have been grouped into the classes 0-9, 10-19, 20-29, etc.

Ungrouped data is the opposite of grouped data with only one possible answer. E.g The ages of 200 people entering a park on a Saturday afternoon. The ages are: 27, 8, 10, 49 etc.

Hope this helps.

Good luck!

Grouped data would be summarized by a table called a frequency distribution. The formula for the mean for grouped data is done by finding sum of MP * Freq / n, where MP is the midpoint for each group, Freq is the number of values that fall into that group, and n is the overall sample size. You find that fraction for each group, and then add them up. Ungrouped data would just be the numbers themseleves. You would find an ungrouped mean by just adding them up and dividing by the sample size.

This is a statistical term used in data analysis. Also grouped data can be defined as the data that has been organised into clases

Could you post the definition?

I'm currently in the middle of a Six Sigma class (which is very statistics heavy) and haven't heard of that differentiation. On www.isixsigma.com (the online 'Bible' of Six Sigma), there's no definition. The only explanation I can find this morning refers to grouping data -- putting them into groups based on specific characteristics (such as by month or by operator).

Are you sure you don't mean normal vs. non-normal data?

Grouped Data

1. Grouping means putting the data into a number of classes.

2. The number of items of data falling into any class is called the frequency of the class.

Why an average computed form of frequency distribution is not exactly same as of raw data give reason
